The Chronicle"s newest character

**Snow Bear is a white lab whose job it is to sniff out those in need of grace.**

**Experts estimate up to 1.5 million refugees escaped but at least 10% died from drowning, piracy, dehydration or never made landfall.**

**Snow Bear will meet the main character at a park bench to bring comfort and healing and compassion.**

White labs are a paler version of yellow labs. Their coats are short, dense, and weather resistant. They have a soft undercoat that protects them from the cold and wet.

Beauty will find our character in need of a friend and have an important message for her about personal resurrection power.

Thuy, our next door neighbor and friend, with her dog Kooper. A neighborhood favorite.

White labs get on well with people and other animals. They are always ready to make new friends.

White labs are not considered aggressive and have famously gentle affectionate natures.

White labs are bred very selectively for their pale, white color.

**The refugees relied on small boats not well suited for sailing. Leaving the country was illegal. If caught they faced relocation at labor camps or execution.**
